Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's One-Day International Lineup Versus Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-match ODI series against India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected selection.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI squad following managing only a single run in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has played 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a Test team comeback ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a return to the Test team as Australia search for a answer to their top-order woes.

Bowling Additions and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue by the time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to seal a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
